FAQ's
Where can I try a cape and/or other styles on?
We can offer private appointments at our studio in Port Melbourne. Bookings made via email tabatha@alloracapes.com.au.
What size should I order?
We always recommend you order your normal size and do not go up a size unless you particularly want an oversized look or you like the extra room. The capes are not a small fit and are designed to be worn with or without layers underneath.
The capes are most fitted around the shoulders. From there the cape drapes down the body and due to the shape of the cape they do not figure hug.
I'm short, which cape will be best for me?
Both capes will work well. The double-breasted cape is the shortest cape style. If you would like the length measurements you can email us.
I’m tall, which styles are best for me?
The single breasted cape is the longer cape style by approximately 5-7cm depending on the size. If you would like the length measurements feel free to email us. Both capes will work well.
How do I know if the size is right?
When you receive your cape, try it on with a few different items from your wardrobe.
The main area to check is your shoulders. The shoulder darts should sit nicely around your shoulder and feel comfortable. It is too small, the cape won’t be able to wrap around your shoulders. If its too big you will feel there is too much room all over the cape. Make sure you can also button up the cape and that there is no pulling across the chest. The cape should sit nice and flat across the front of the body.
There is a standard 2cm difference between the sizes. If you feel you need that little bit more or less you probably need to exchange the size. We offer free exchanges within Australia so do get in touch and we will organise a return label for you for exchange.
Is a cape warm without sleeves?
Yes! The capes are made with winter weight wool and cashmere coating. They are incredibly warm. You can layer up or down depending on the weather which gives you longer wear throughout the year.
The capes are also fully lined with a premium quality lining that is anti-static and soft and subtle to wear. The high collar has two layers of wool cashmere and can also be turned up around your neck for additional warmth on a really cold day.
Are you able to send me the length measurements?
Yes, email us and we can send measurements specific to your size.
What happens if I buy the wrong size and want to exchange?
We offer free exchanges within Australia. Please get in touch and we will organise a return label for you for exchange.
What happens if I want to return?
We offer free returns within 7 days. Please contact us to organise a return. Capes must be received unworn and in original packaging and condition.
Where are your capes made?
All our capes are made at a manufacturing facility located in Brunswick, Melbourne. The factory we use is a family run business that has been making garments for some of Australia’s top designer labels for over 35 years. We regularly visit our factory, check on production and personally know the people who are making your capes. The factory is accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia.
Where do you source your fabric?
Our coating is sourced from a leading textile agent located in Richmond, Melbourne who specialises in importing coating fabrics from Italy. They are also a family owned business who has supplying Australian designers for three generations. The agent regularly travels to Italy where the coating mills are located to source the latest fabric, colours and textures available in the market.
The mill was established more than a century ago in Italy. Five generations have been a part of growing and developing the company with constant upgrades and expansion. The mill employs around 50 people, covers over 20,000m2 and can produce 3 million metres of fabric per year. The mill’s main activities include spinning, twisting, warping, weaving, finishing and quality control.
